It is involved in the metabolism of several important groups of drugs including many non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and sulfonylureas. Genetic polymorphism exists for CYP2C9 expression, with approximately 1–3% of Caucasian populations being poor metabolisers with no CYP2C9 function.
